Schemas aren't always present where people deal with namespaces. So while people can check, in practice they don't always do it, and sometimes they cannot or don't know how to. In C++ or Perl or Python or Java, you simply get a compile-time error telling you what's wrong, and there is no way around it. (Okay, in Perl there *is* a way around it, but frankly, the people going it deserve all the pain they're inflicting upon themselves.) I can see another good reason here to put namespaces in the DTD - you could get a compile-time error for your document. :-) -- Michael Ludwig
