For me the availability of a Free/Open Source xslt 2.0 engine would be a significant game changer. We use xslt 1.0 heavily and not really out of choice. Even in our java project there is some uneasiness about about the variegated licence arrangements of saxon. And, like most java projects these days, we use a lot of maven and I heard some time back that Norm has issues with distributing saxon in this way. This has prevented me from using calabash which was sad. Norm this is not to take issue with you. You have obviously thought everything through re saxon are free to distribute under whatever arrangements suit you. But it does really leave open quite some niche for a(nother) Free/Open Source xslt 2.0 engine. BTW looking at Zorba briefly I see it has swig interfaces so the php, python, ruby etc bindings already exist which is nice. And would be easy enough to add tcl which is even nicer :-) I understand Steve Ball was working on an xslt 2.0 engine for libxml/libxslt but not sure what has happened to that. This is partly because (as previously mentioned) there is a lack of open XSLT 2.0 processors available, especially on Linux. However the main reason is that I don't see a compelling reason to use the features of XSLT 2.0, which appear to be primarily centred around support for XSD datatypes. If you use XSLT for publishing or content management rather than for enterprisey typed data manipulation in PSVIs, 1.0 is quite sufficient. > > _______________________________________________________________________ > > XML-DEV is a publicly archived, unmoderated list hosted by OASIS > to support XML implementation and development.
