Why?

There are lots of XML parsers out there.  So, of course it's fine
that you write another, but it needs to have a reason to survive
in the wild :-)

Yours (as you note) doesn't cope with comments, entities, and more;
I worry that people will think they have well-formed XML based on
this when in fact they don't.

On the other hand, every great building was for a while unfinished :-)
