That application's data access patterns haven't changed since
1998, and it is still in production! That is rather typical
for many corporate apps.

But for the sake fo the argument, let's say I have to spend
a day rewriting the query. Well, I have seen SQL problems
that took a week to get right. Sure, a simple SELECT is very
easy to do, and I would use SQL when appropriate.
But that is not what I was writing about.

Well, my experience taught me that SQL isn't the best approach
all the time. I am not going to argue against my own experience...
