Others have already pointed out the benefits of documents being in for workflow and the like. I'm just excited about being able to use Word as I have in the past to do things like write my monthly columns or API specs but for it all to be saved as my custom XML format.

Why is that important?

I'm serious.  One of the lessons I've
learned along the way is that markup for
markup's sake is not a good idea.  And
while we can tout the shared costs of
the framework footprint, it still comes
down to 'markup for markup's sake'.
