In a classical document markup environment, attributes are an important means to separate document content from metadata. It is much easier to process (and eventually to ignore or filter, e.g. for displaying/editing content) additional information that is encoded in a different way than the document's content. XML was made for simple processing, and attributes can be used to support this. This content/attribute distinction may be less important for XML-RPC or other data-exchange XML applications, but these are only one (admittedly important) part of the XML picture. .co. ---------------------------------------------- daisy bytes! --------- Carsten Oberscheid co@d... digital document processing http://www.pweb.de/daisybytes.su electronic publishing xml-dev: A list for W3C XML Developers.
