Yes, people keep rediscovering old things. I remember job control languages where you wrote compile_cobol ---- COBOL CODE goes here ++++ I find the choice of delimiters for CDATA very ugly, but that's part of the point: they are chosen as character sequences that are unlikely to be wanted for any other purpose.
