Web browsers live in a world without DTDs. There was a goal to be able
to add other elements with defaulted namespaces. This in a world in
which putting a colon in a name in markup is considered actively evil
(seriously).

Probably, although that wasn't the specific need i was trying to
address with unobtrusive namespaces.
