In which case the argument that worked for JSON vs XML failed abysmally for Scheme vs Java. I guess we can put that down to some incarnation of the Law of Sod. Makes you wonder whether people would be so quick to jump on the JSON bandwagon if they could write a basic XSLT transformation because for many the "smaller payload" argument is what drives them there in the first place. I worked for one such client who was transforming XML feeds to JSON for exactly that reason because the destination of the data was a mobile device.
