For MicroXML?
For any other processor?
In the case of MicroXML, colons are not allowed anywhere in element or attribute names!

I can't see why it's not a valid name in regular XML, although it might not be a wise choice due to it's use in namespaces (even though you mentioned 'without namespace processing').
