Wouldn't that require some knowledge or assumptions about
what or who is reading the data and needs to be able to
reliably pick out what is very important?
 
e.g. for XSLT the top level element name is no more visible than
an attribute value, say
 
For some systems it might be that the namespace (i.e. document
schema) is the most visible aspect of the XML, e.g. where there
is some business process engine looking out for message types.
