Ah, some sanity at last. We clearly need more tools like
this SGMLReader if it is to continue to be the standard
that parsers must throw fatal errors given illformed XML.
And it looks like SGMLReader is free too! Cool! I hope
the need for such tools will diminish though as sanity
takes hold and people recognise there has to be a way
to do what this tool does with standard XML parsers too.

An example of a parser that's tolerant of XML errors (so not an XML
parser) would be MindTouch's SGMLReader[1]. This is a parser that
implements the .NET XmlReader interface; if memory serves, there are a
few gaps in the implementation - because it specialises in handling
HTML.
