That's indeed true. Most of our programming languages and data 
representation formats are one-dimensional. This is interesting, because 
in the past - when people still used punched cards - two-dimensional 
formats were much more popular; that is, the significance of a piece of 
data was determined by two coordinates, row number and column number.

I guess Excel spreadsheets are three-dimensional - row, column, and 
sheet number.
