There are an infinite number to choose from, and they are all equally "correct". If you are looking for an algorithm that will generate a valid element name from any character string, then you could consider replacing non-alphanumeric characters with _NNN_ where NNN is the numeric value of the Unicode codepoint. It might have been nice if the spec designers had allowed numeric character references (&#NNN;) to appear in element names, but for some reason they didn't.
