The name <xml> isn't illegal, it is reserved for future standardization.
That is, the syntax is allowed (the document is well-formed, and all parsers
will accept it) but the semantics could give you trouble in the future.

It emerged that the well-formedness error lay in the meaning of the ellipsis
"...", which I assumed meant "and more well-formed content which I am
omitting for reasons of space" but which actually meant "and the document
ends abruptly here".
