Opinions about Versioning? Participate in the Symposium!
XML vocabularies change. XML documents change. XML applications
change. These changes are often complex, they should usually be
managed and tracked, and in most XML environment versioning is
handled poorly at best. Do you have opinions on how we could handle
versioning well? On what we as a community are doing wrong? An
example of XML versioning handled well?

The Balisage pre-conference "International Symposium on Versioning
XML Vocabularies and Systems" (http://www.balisage.net/Versioning/)
has included time in the program for a "Speakers Corner". During this
time all symposium attendees are invited to give short presentations.

Attendees are encouraged to prepare their 5-minute presentations in
advance, to organize their presentations to make good use of limited
time, and to prepare visuals in HTML to accompany their presentations
if desired.

Applications to present at "Speaker's Corner" will be collected at
the symposium, and should consist of:

     * the name of the speaker
     * the title of the presentation
     * a short (25 word maximum) summary of the topic of the presentation

If there are more proposals than can be accommodated, proposals from
people who have already spoken will be discarded, and random
selections from the remaining proposals will be made.

As at the "Speaker's Corner" in London's Hyde Park, after which this
"Speakers Corner" is modeled, there will be virtually no restrictions
on allowed content. However, the Versioning Symposium's organizers
will terminate presentations that are not related to versioning, that
are disrespectful of others or their points of view, or that are
still incomplete after five minutes have elapsed.

It is the organizer's hope that this open microphone time will lead
to a lively and productive discussion about both the problems users
encounter in working with versioning in an XML environment and ways
in which these problems can be, or have been, managed.
