I don't understand the scenario.  I don't think I have ever seen an XML 
document where I didn't know where it came from, or where my ignorance 
on the issue made any difference to things.

Is this an issue of determining the meanings of elements, or of trust, 
or of versioning, or for flagging variant schemas for later processing?

By the latter I mean where different mobs have different druthers: 
different phases in Schematron terms or different derived schemas in XSD 
terms.
