As well as the individuals who were on the W3C committee I think we
would all be remiss we didn't acknowledge the efforts that Yuri Rubinsky
made in establishing "SGML on the Web" - if my memory serves me right -
it was at SGML Europe in Munich in 1996 that the term XML was
established.  Yuri was in the forefront in trying to establish a
workable version of SGML for the Web.
