RE: Is Web 2.0 the new XML?

RE: Is Web 2.0 the new XML?
Hello Sterling,

Sterling said:
So, the idea that the computer has democratized the world is false.
False, not because the evolution of the technologies found in computer
and information science has not made it possible, but false because the
law has quickly redirected and transferred the benefits of the technical
developments to the wealthy powerful parts of the private domain. And the
laws and treaties have been lobbied to be written and to have the effect
in actual practice of making the large, powerful organizations the owners
and benefactors of the output of all human cognition.

Didier replies:
My god sterling you just depicted an Aldous Huxley nightmare came true. I do
not know if the data posted on the web is "true-speak" or not, what I know
is that before I had to go to university libraries to get access to
knowledge. Today, I have access to this knowledge from the comfort of my
home. I no longer need to be part of a post grad program to conduct some
research on a subject. What I know is that today, if a book is not good, I
can express my opinion on Amazon and so can do other book readers. When I
want to buy a product I can get the help of others in forums and prevent
some bad purchases and mistakes. What I know is that I have the opportunity
to say on the web what I think. I may not have any readers and I may have
thousands. What I know, is that never before in my whole life I got such an
easy access to information and got so many means to express my thoughts.

Sorry, I am probably in a too optimistic mood today; maybe the result of too
much biking or too much playing in the pool with my daughter.

Cheers
Didier PH Martin
