Why would an industry specific XML binary format eventually creep onto the Web without a push from the W3C or similar "standards organization"? We already have standardized "binary XML" formats like WBXML & BiM and I haven't seen a push to replace serving RSS feeds with XML 1.0 (for example). -- PITHY WORDS OF WISDOM There is nothing more satisfying that having someone take a shot at you, and miss. ________________________________ From: Robin Berjon [mailto:robin.berjon@e...] Sent: Fri 11/26/2004 7:15 AM To: Dare Obasanjo Cc: xml-dev@l... Subject: Re: Hostility to "binary XML" (was Re: XML 2004 weblog items?) Again, it's all a question of balancing the cost of producing a standard binary encoding for all of us (with the problems that you outline) against the risk of having one that's optimized for an industry such as the mobile industry that the desktop/server community will end up being forced to use anyway (or that will split the Web and other nasty things).
