Thanks, Dare.

It's a fairly good picture of what can happen.  No system of 
creating standards works in all cases to the maximum advantage 
of all participants.  That's why consensus is another word 
for compromise in many cases.

The RFID consortium (EPC?) that took over from MIT stresses 
the need for customers to be part of the process to ensure 
things get done on time.  I have to wonder how well that 
would work for the 'five smart people and a network' model.
