You might take a look at XMLDistilled's free Win32 XML editor, XMLDE.

The XMLDE editor can launch, load and highlight a 4MB XML file in under 5
seconds from a dead stop.  :)

Main editor features:

  - Well-formedness checking via expat
  - RELAX NG validation (Compact Syntax) via RNV
  - Auto schema detection via ARX
  - Trivial Install:  download-unzip-run  (no registry updating)
