Your design is perfectly sensible, but your instance has three typos in it which make it not work. If you correct those, it's fine. As you sent it: <c:Collection xmlns:c="urn:xmlns:test:collection" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="urn:xmlns:test:collection Collection.xsd"> <p1:Part1 part1Attr="p1a" xmlns:p1="urn:xmlns:test:p1" xx xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="urn:xmlns:test:part1 Part1.xsd"/> <p2:Part2 part2Attr="p2a" xmlns:p2="urn:xmlns:test:p2" xx xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="urn:xmlns:test:part1 Part2.xsd"/> xxxxx </c:Collection> Corrected: <c:Collection xmlns:c="urn:xmlns:test:collection" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="urn:xmlns:test:collection Collection.xsd"> <p1:Part1 part1Attr="p1a" xmlns:p1="urn:xmlns:test:part1" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="urn:xmlns:test:part1 Part1.xsd"/> <p2:Part2 part2Attr="p2a" xmlns:p2="urn:xmlns:test:part2" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="urn:xmlns:test:part2 Part2.xsd"/> </c:Collection> -- Henry S.
