[XML-DEV Mailing List Archive Home] [By Thread] [By Date] [Recent Entries] [Reply To This Message] RE: Reply-to munging
Automatically always setting Reply-To makes it awkward or at times difficult to reply to an individual. Mistakes ("sorry, meant to be a private reply") are costly to the entire list membership. Without Reply-To, it's easy to reply to poster, and trivially different (what, the SHIFT key? :) to reply to the list. Mistakes ("sorry, meant to send to the whole list") are much elss costly. It follows that not hacking Reply-To is the most efficient way to run a mailing list. It is also the most flexible. It might also help "train" neophytes to think before posting to a world-wide mailing list with potentially hundreds of readers; that seems like a good thing to me. Sometimes I miss Pnews. :) /r$
