If it was two clean pieces, one for structure and one for content, I could probably accept that situation, but asking developers to use or understand one language to define structure and some fraction of a competing language (with very different syntax and application) for content is just plain weird. "mind-bogglingly annoying" seems like an adequate description of the situation, even for those of us who aren't using XML Schema.
