There are some interesting comments on the eScience site:

Pilot projects:

The eScience middleware is the same software used by NASA's intranet grid
project. Apparently the next generation will support federated data, relational
data and a variety of other data sources used for Grid Services.

'The software that will emerge will offer considerably more functionality than
the present Grid middleware and will also be produced to industrial quality. In
a recent interview, Irving Wladawsky-Berger made the commitment that 'all of our
systems will be enabled to work with the grid, and all of our middleware will
integrate with the software'.

<< I have found it quite hard to find anyone interested in writing about Grid
for _developers_.

This paper is a rather interesting discussion of OGSA, data access and data
integration. It proposes, for example, using WSDL, XML schema types and
namespace, and a Grid Service Handle to support the database service discovery
process. It also proposes an approach to concurrency for grid database services
doing queries over XML repositories:
