Why do you expect them to use it with all those "desirable" attributes?
Because the W3C says so??? Maybe people did that in 1998, but not today. 
Because the vendors just automatically implement the Recommendations?  
Uhh, not anymore, they're not!

Somebody WILL popularize a a less awkward, less annoying, less funny-looking 
markup language.  The only question is who and when... and whether it
will be standardized or proprietary, patent encumbered or not, vendor-neutral
or not.  Innovation doesn't stop because it's inconvenient for the
definers of the status quo. XML can evolve in the direction of being less
"annoying" ... or it will be replaced by something that *is* less annoying
whether we like it or not.
