Amen. In my experience, a NOTATION-like local mapping is what specialized local
processes must do anyway. Classifying instances of incoming XML by their provenance
and structure, when no explicit NOTATION is available, and often even when it is, a
processing node must associate the processes which it is capable of
performing--including the specific data instantiations required--which each of the
sources of data against which it has been able successfully to execute any of those
processes.
