Title: XLink and Validation

Hi,

I checked the XLink standard on this but could not locate an answer: can you please tell me if an XLink-aware processor is required to validate simple links in order to conform with the XLink standard? For example suppose the following element exists in an instance document:

      <InvoiceCustomer xlink:type="simple" xlink:href="#A157"/>

If there were no element in the instance document with an ID-type attribute whose value is "A157", is an XLink-aware processor required to throw an error?

Thank you in advance,
Joe Chiusano
