Also UDP, T/TCP (a nice candidate for messaging, actually; Rich Stevens
was interested enough to treat it more extensively than any of the other
alternatives), and potentially, let's see ... ISODE, NetBIOS-dgram, SNA
RH, SPX, ISO TP, NSP, SPP, PEP, VSPC, VIPC, and probably DDP in the
apple stack.  Maybe NetBEUI if you're feeling generous.  TP0, TP1, TP2,
TP3, and TP4 if you take ISO seriously.  DDP is amusing here because
it's such a different architecture, with the "tcp guarantees" a layer or
so lower in the stack.

HTTP can, in theory, run over any of these protocols.  Granted, you'd
have to create something that could connect-the-packets for the datagram
oriented protocols, such as UDP, but it could be done (and given the
statelessness of HTTP, it would make an awful lot of sense ... Stevens
suggested that T/TCP was an ideal vehicle for HTTP).

Presumably, you could do interesting things with HTTP over PGM.  It
would be an amusing thing to try, in any event.
