Doesn't doing so *after* the release of XQuery 1.0 just create a legacy problem and just make things worse for everyone (except possibly vendors who get a free churn)? Why rush? Who is rushing and why? As a user, I want something small, simple to understand, that works. I don't mind if it does not unify the Universe into one cohesive theory. I'd like that but I can wait for it. If a bunch of smart people advise that we should re-visit some core data model issues before layering on more standards, so be it. In fact, I'd be delighted because it would show concern for the deep longevity we are all seeking in data standards. "Standards" should not be rushed. They should take as long as they take. Especially when they are as complex, far-reaching and require innovation as XQuery does. Remenber that the XML 1.0 "standard" came about by taking stuff *out* of a known technology - a ten year old technology. There is a lesson there for all of us. regards, Sean
