That still doesn't explain why XML-Dev is freaking out.

Lousy - erroneous, sometimes wildly - articles about XML have been around
since the beginning.  xmlhack could have probably filled up a 'stupid press
tricks' category long ago, and the Media category sometimes feels like that
anyway.

So why are people just starting to notice?

Seems like letters to the editor are a better answer than a stupid article
list on xml-dev.
