Well then surely it depends on exactly what you _are_ looking for? ;-)

My recommended list is very short:

Simon St Laurent's "XML Elements of Style" (got it now Simon - good book)
and
Michael Kay's "XSLT Programmers Reference"

If you're looking for a reference for working with XML in programming
languages (e.g. Java), these aren't the books for you.
