Athens editor has two faces.

One is as an XML source editor, for those who are familiar with XML
syntax. Something like the XMLSpy or psgml.
Athens has many features that assists you write XML files.

* IntelliSense-like tagname/attribute auto-completion. Athens
  automatically gather schema and associates it with XML namespace.
* On-the-fly well-formedness check. You don't need to explicitly check
  well-formedness. Validity check is also available (although it's not
  on-the-fly).
* Customizable syntax coloring
* Auto completion of end tags. When you finish typing a start tag,
  Athens suggests auto-completion of the corresponding end tag.
* Smart indent


The other face is as an XML UI component. That is, an ActiveX control
that shows a GUI by HTML and generate an XML on the basis of user input.

Another explanation of this face is as follows. We can use XSLT to
transform XML into HTML, thus we are capable of "presenting" XML to
user. Athens makes it possible to edit XML through editing this
presentation.

You can embed this component into your application and/or Internet
Explorer and users of your application can author XML document without
knowledge of XML.

Athens editor runs on Windows95/98, WindowsNT4.0, or Windows2000.
Additionally, it requires IE5.0(or later) and MSXML. MSXML is available
at the web site of Microsoft.

Athens editor is a shareware and is avaiable at
http://www.swiftinc.co.jp/ for free 30-days trial. The license sells for
80- US$ per single user.
