Hi, Don Box sent me a very good comment about XML fragment/document linkage to their schemas. Comment: --------- That is one approach discussed in the Schema WG composition task force report (http://www.w3.org/TR/1999/WD-xmlschema-1-19990924/composition-t f.html). The current schema WD does not specify which (if any) of these approaches will be used unfortunately. BTW, overloading the xmlns attribute to locate schema docs would break a lot of existing XML (most of my xmlns URIs have been UUIDs lately) in addition to making it more difficult to compare two elements for type equivalence. I am all for using a well-known XML attribute per element to associate schema with instances, but I don't think overloading the existing xmlns attribute is a good idea. Didier reply: ------------- Don is right, we have, in the field, several documents using diverse URI for name space references. things like URN, URL, etc.. These URI are not necessarily resolvable into a location and a schema document stored at this place. Thus, we are still in front of the wall: How to link an XML fragment to its schema? And in the same vein: how do we link a document to its meta data? Cheers Didier PH Martin mailto:martind@n... http://www.netfolder.com xml-dev: A list for W3C XML Developers.
