The Schematron is a Open Source tree-pattern language for representing schemas for XML documents. It is a radically different approach from grammar-based schemas. It is based on XPath, and can be *trivially* implemented over an XSL system. I think it has the potential to largely supercede grammar-based schema languages such as DTDs, etc. for XML validation. David Carlisle has produced an implementation with an error browser: Schematron Report. You can see an example at http://www.ascc.net/xml/resource/schematron/DavidCarlisle/schematron-fra me.html The top frame are the error messages produced by the Schematron itself. Click on the error messages and source code in the lower frame goes to the apporpriate place in the source document. This example uses a partial schema for the WAI guidelines. You can see the schema at http://www.ascc.net/xml/resource/schematron/wai.xml The Schematron home page is http://www.ascc.net/xml/resource/schematron/schematron.html Rick Jelliffe Computing Centre Academia Sinica xml-dev: A list for W3C XML Developers.
