DOM2 WD and Events

Hi,

I've just been skimming over the DOM2 Working Draft 
(http://www.w3.org/TR/WD-DOM-Level-2/), and am particularly 
interested in the event model as it provides a lot of 
additional power, as now I'll be able to make different components 
of my application aware of changes to the DOM made by other 
aspects. This will help to cleanly modularise many XML applications.

What surprised me into making this posting is the presence of 
User Interface events in the DOM2 model. I guess my question is :
Why? Is it just to make the browser integration that much 
easier?

I'd have thought that was an application level problem and 
not something that the DOM would need to be worried about.
>From looking at the list, I'd have thought that with the 
possible addition of a 'selection' mutation event, it would 
be possible to map any user interface event to something 
understandable by the DOM.
