This is actually easy to handle with a special filter on top of any
SAX implementation (as is namespace processing, for that matter).

I disagree with this point -- I think that the filter approach goes
much further towards general-purpose, reusable handlers; that said,
there are other benefits to broadcasting events (such as doing two
completely different things with the same input stream).
