(the initial questions are up on xml-names-issues) XSchema's, XML-Data, and Document Content Descriptions may well provide features additional to XML/DTD encoding at some point in the future. since, however, the respective proposals either do not, at least in their present versions, provide adequate support for the particular problem of disambiguating names, or depend on the support of the base xml encoding, i do not believe the arguments, to wait for these successors. it is necessary to handle "name identity" in the encoding - that is in XML itself. my experience is that it is also possible. if this is not true, could someone please explain why it is not. if this has already been hashed out in the mythical 2000 messages, then please just put them on the net. xml-dev: A list for W3C XML Developers.
