I am not sure if that's possible but how about this :

 <!ELEMENT GenericAnimal( Category,Name, Type)>
<!ELEMENT Category(#PCDATA>  
 <!ELEMENT Name(#PCDATA)>
<!ATTLIST   Name (latin|common) "common">
<!ELEMENT Type(#PCDATA)>


Category could be Mammal, Fish etc
