I'm trying to output certain characters as numeric character entities using the character-map instruction, but it doesn't seem to be working. I'm using Saxon 8.9.0.3 with SS 2007 r2 build 894m with the following snip:

<xsl:output indent="yes" doctype-public="-//OASIS//DTD DocBook XML V4.2//EN" doctype-system="dtd/docbookx.dtd" encoding="UTF-8" method="xml" omit-xml-declaration="no" version="2.0"/>

<xsl:character-map name="ProblemsChar">
<xsl:output-character character=" " string=" " />
</xsl:character-map>

I've change the string attr to be a simple string like "XXX" and that doesn't work either. Is there something else I need to do or some error in my code? If this isn't supported, does anyone have an idea for a workaround?

Hi Steve,
it's not enough to define a character-map, you also have to select it in the xsl:output by using use-character-maps="ProblemsChar"

Hope this helps,
Alberto
