chelsea drennanSubject: SubString-After with variables(?)
Author: chelsea drennan

Hello,

I am currently working with a variable that comes through in the following format.
Y-ABCD-####

Y-ABCD- is the constant part of the variable and I would like to remove this so only the
#### portion of the variable is displayed.

The #### changes each time the user runs the XSL.

Is it possible to do the above using the SubString-After with variables? Or is there another way that I can approach this?

Thanks for any and all help,
Chelsea

What do you mean?

<xsl:value-of select="substring-after($myValue,'Y-ABCD-')"/> ?

...or...

<xsl:variable name="filteredValue" select="substring-after($originalValue,'Y-ABCD-')"/> ?

To call other variables in the document I have been using:
<xsl:value-of select="substring-after($myValue,'Y-ABCD-')"/>

Would this work?

Thanks!

I was able to get this to work. There was some confusion on my part about how to declare the variable in the statement, but that has been cleared up now. Thanks!

Hi all again,

I have been moving forward with my variable by using substring-after and substring functions, but now I need to be able to add whitespace in the middle of the variable.

As mentioned previously the variable has a format of 'Y-ABCD-####'.
I need to a space between the #### so that it shows up as ## ## or ##-##.

The space would always be in the same location 2 of that portion.

See my syntax below and any help is appreciated.

<xsl:value-of select="substring(substring-after($myVar,'Y-ABCD-'),1,4)"/>

Thanks,
Chelsea

concat(
substring(substring-after($myVar,'Y-ABCD-'),1,2),
' - ',
substring(substring-after($myVar,'Y-ABCD-'),3,2)
)
