I am converting one xml to another format.
The two schemas are different. Can I assign the schema to the resulting xml in the xslt? I tried assigning but it takes it as the xsd of the xslt itself and says the xslt is not valid. Please tell me if there is a way to do this..

Regards,
Seema.

If you want to assign a schema to the result of an XSLT transformation, you will need to create the proper attributes in the root element of the generated XML, something like:

<myRoot xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="file:///c:/mySchema.xsd">
...

(assuming the output lives in the default namespace)

when I give the xsd like this as an attribute to root element, the xslt itself is validated against the schema and everytime I get a error message that the file is not valid. How to solve this.

Seema

You don't need to associate the XSLT to the schema; you need to associate the output...

<?xml version='1.0'?>
<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">

<xsl:template match="/">
<myRoot xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="file:///c:/mySchema.xsd">
...
</myRoot>
</xsl:template>

</xsl:stylesheet>

Then ask Altova.
