Mark EvansSubject: hyperlink creation problem
Author: Mark Evans

I'm a newbie and I'm having trouble outputting an XML cross-reference to HTML.
The XML is:

<para>For more information see <link
format = "Heading on page x"
srcfile = "CompletePubFlowDevPage2.xml#BABJEADD"/>.</para>

I'm able to output an active hyperlink using this rule:

<xsl:template match="link">
<a href="{@srcfile}">
<xsl:value-of select="@format"/>

However, I don't want the value of the format attribute to be the link text, I want the text in the link element.

When I replace "@format" with "link" I get this...

<a href="CompletePubFlowDevPage2.xml#BABJEADD"></a>

...which doesn't give me a link to click on.

Can anyone help. I'd really appreciate it.

If your XML fragment is:
<para>For more information see <link
format = "Heading on page x"
srcfile = "CompletePubFlowDevPage2.xml#BABJEADD"/>.</para>

...then the <link> element has no text. In your XML fragment the only element that has text associated is <para>... If that's what you are trying to output from inside the template matching <link>, you will have to do <xsl:value-of select=".."/>
