Manikandan SurendranathSubject: Defining a date element with attribute

I could not find a conference here for Xml Schema. So, I am posting in a wrong room. I would like to define a date type element with a string attribute. I am not able to define it properly. Below is a xml fragment if some one could help me with XSD definition it will be much appreciated.

<RankDate RID="C01">2005-08-01</RankDate>

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<xsd:schema xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
<xsd:element name="RankDate">
<xsd:complexType>
<xsd:simpleContent>
<xsd:extension base="xsd:date">
<xsd:attribute name="RID" type="xsd:string" use="required"/>
</xsd:extension>
</xsd:simpleContent>
</xsd:complexType>
</xsd:element>
</xsd:schema>

Hope this helps

yes this helps. I would like to add one more validation to it. The RankDate should be after "ReviewDate". Can this be defined?

I'm sorry I was not clear with my question. What I want to define was that the RankDate content say '2005-01-01' should be later than ReviewDate say '2004-01-01'.

Such instance-based constraints, where the value (or presence
or absence) of one attribute (or element) determines the
limits to be imposed on some other attribute (or element), are
not supported by XML Schema 1.0. You can specify such constraints
using Schematron.

Yes, I have defined this condition in Schematron only. But my client is not aware of it, so I thought of double checking that such definition is not possible in Schema, before I go back and tell them to change their parser to the one which is schematron aware.

Thanks for your help!!!
