Open and Save As

You use the Browse Tab of the Open dialog box to select the file you want to open. You can also use this dialog box to open a non-XML file as an XML document using an adapter, such as an adapter created using Stylus Studio's Convert to XML.

You use the URL Builder Tab to specify the URL you want to use to connect to a relational database. Once connected, you can browse the databas and select a relational table that you want to render as XML in Stylus Studio.

Use the Save As dialog box to

  • Save a document that is the result of applying a stylesheet to an XML source document.
  • Save a document under a new name.

Fields

Look in

Specifies the directory whose contents are currently displayed in the main field of the dialog box. Click the down arrow to navigate to a different directory.

URL:

Displays the name of the file you select, or you can type the name.

Files of type:

Specifies which file types can appear in the main field of the dialog box. The default is that Stylus Studio displays files with file name extensions of .dtd, .java, .xml, .xsd, and .xsl. To change the file types Stylus Studio displays, click the down arrow and select the filter you want. To allow display of any type of file, select All Files (*.*).

Convert to XML using adapter

Check if you want to open a non-XML file (such as a text, binary, or EDI file) using an adapter, such as one you have created using Stylus Studio's Convert to XML. When you click the Open button, Stylus Studio displays a dialog box from which you can select the adapter you want to use. Buttons

Click My Computer to open a file in your local file system or on a networked file system.

Click WebDAV Server to open a file that is stored on a WebDAV server. XIS prompts you for your user name and password.

Click FTP Server to open a file that is stored on an FTP server. XIS prompts you for your user name and password.

Click Relational DB to open a DB to XML data source, or to build a URL to a relational database. DB to XML data sources are always saved to this file system. See Opening a DB-to-XML Data Source and Using the URL Builder for more information on these topics.

 

DB to XML data sources are available only in Stylus Studio XML Enterprise Edition and Stylus Studio XML Professional Edition.

Click XML Converters to open an XML adapter, such as one you might have created using Stylus Studio's Convert to XML, for example. See Chapter 3Converting Non-XML Files to XML for more information on this topic.

 

Convert to XML is available only in Stylus Studio XML Enterprise Edition.

Click Web Service to open a Web service call composition. Web service call compositions are always saved to this file system. See Chapter 11Composing Web Service Calls for more information on this topic.

 

Web service support is available only in Stylus Studio XML Enterprise Edition.

Click Up to move up one level in the directory structure.

Click New Folder create a new directory in the directory you are viewing.

Click these buttons to toggle the display of the Name and Size headings in the main field of the Open dialog box.

URL Builder Tab

You use the URL Builder tab to specify the URL you want to use to connect to a relational database. Once connected, you can browse the databas and select a relational table that you want to render as XML in Stylus Studio.

You can also use the URL Builder to define a collection. See Working with Collections for more information.

Fields

Use Default Connection

Allows you to use the connection defined on the Default Connection page of the Options dialog box.

Database Type

The type of database to which you want to connect. You can connect to one of the default relational databases supported by Stylus Studio (Oracle, MS SQL Server, Informix, and so on), or you can use DataDirect SequeLink to connect to any ODBC database you specify.

Server URL

The server's network location and other inforamation including the server name, the port through which the connection is established, and other information, such as a server ID (SID). Stylus Studio displays default information for this field when you select a database type.

Username

The username required to log in to the database.

Password

The password associated with the username.

XMLForest

Renders a relational table as a sequence. See XMLForest for more information.

URL

Displays the URL constructed using the URL Builder. You can type your own URL in this field if you prefer.

Files of type

Filter used to display files of a given type. This filter does not affect the display of database tables.

Buttons

Connect

Connects to the database server you specify in the connection settings. Connection to the database is attempted automatically if you use the default connection. Once you connect to a database server, the list box beneath the Connect button displays the databases associated with that server. Drill down to select the table you want to open as XML in Stylus Studio.
