TK TEHSubject: Error previewing xsl:fo

Hi, I am not very familiar about xsl:fo but I have a pre-created xsl:fo that I am trying to open using stylus studio. I am attached the xsl file for your reference. Ideally, I want to preview the xsl in pdf format with the data populated in the right layout.

In the scenario, I have selected the xml file to render, and specify Apache FOP as post-processor. when I run, the result did not show in pdf format (with acrobat plug-in), instead, it is displaying the data in a flow layout, as if it did not understand all the xsl:fo formating. Another thing I have noticed is that there is not message display in the output view.

Is there anything I have not done to make it show properly?

I have then tried to change the processor to Microsoft MSXML 6, this time, the output shows messages but it stop with the following error:

[Fatal Error] RES2A7.boh:2:1: Content is not allowed in prolog.

May I know what happen here?

It's difficult to tell, since you didn't include the XML file.
But it looks from the screenshots like you aren't getting matches
on your templates, and instead are just dumping the text from
the input file out via the default template rules.

For example, the only template match you include matches on 'PRFIR'
but since the XSLT starts at the root of the XML document, and
according to the tree view on the right the root node is 'PSCROLL'
there is no way for the template rule to get fired.

You might try (and again, without seeing the template document
this is just a guess) changing the line to
<xsl:template match="//PRFIR">

Thanks for the swift reply.

Your comment makes me think if I had got the right template mapping the xml. I then use another template that is confirmed mapping the xml and retry. This time I use Built-in processor. I still got the same error.

[Fatal Error] pro2FE.xml:3:1: Content is not allowed in prolog.

So, I guess I need your help to look into the files again. This time I include both xsl and xml for your reference.

Your XSLT generates an invalid XSL:FO document, it is not even well formed.

My suggestion is either buying a good XSL:FO book or try XML Publisher available in Stylus Studio Enterprise Edition.

Thanks for pointing that out. the xsl is actually developed by a vendor.

I know you may not find it necessary, but if you can point some of the lines that are not well formed, may be I can try repair them.

Hope you can help. :)

Simply load the resulting xsl-fo output file into the editor
and use the yellow 'well-formed' button to check. It will
list the problems as it finds them.
