HI THere,

I have developed a simple SOAP client and server. The SOAP server extracts data from DB backend and sends it back to the client as raw ASCII text.

I would like to know how to format the display of that raw text using an XSL stylesheet. I have tried to add a reference to the XSL stylesheet within the SOAP message (a processing instruction) but that does not work.

Has anyone got any ideas about this.

THe SOAP message and the stylesheet are both attached,

regards,

Steven Matthews

Change this:

<xsl:template match="/results">

to this:

<xsl:template match="/" xmlns:SOAP="urn:schemas-xmlsoap-org:soap.v1">
<xsl:apply-templates select="/SOAP:Envelope/SOAP:Body/results"/>
</xsl:template>
<xsl:template match="results">

The <results> element isn't your root, the SOAP:Envelope is.

Thanks for that Tony - it works - but only in Opera

In both Firefox and MS IE v6 only the raw XML tree is displayed.

Actually I have had a problem for a long time trying to display XSL formatted XML in Firefox - I only get the raw XML tree.

I wrote an application called 'Miller College' recently that makes extensive use of XSLT and XML:

http://prototype.ntforl.com/

The XML displays correctly in MS IE v6+ but not in the other main browsers.

Any advice would be welcome,

Steven Matthews

Does it work if you open the file from the filesystem, instead
of using http:? If so, the problem could be that your webserver
isn't serving up the content with the correct MIME type.

Hi Tony,

Yes, it does work OK if I open up and display the XML locally.

How could I then get the web server to use the correct mime type ?

regards,

Steven M

It depends on the webserver, and there should
be documentation that tells you how to set
the MIME type based on file extension and/or
directory.

Try asking on a forum dedicated to your www
software. Or look in the admin functions if
you have a GUI console - it's usually pretty
easy to find.
