NO!! You are both wrong. This stylesheet will not work <?xml version="1.0"?> <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"> <xsl:template match="/"> <xsl:variable name="mode1" select="'1'" /> <xsl:variable name="mode2">1</xsl:variable> <xsl:apply-templates /> </xsl:template> <xsl:template match="root"> <html> <body> <xsl:if test="$mode1='1'">Mode 1 = '1'</xsl:if> <xsl:if test="$mode2='1'">Mode 2 = '1'</xsl:if> <xsl:if test="$mode2=$mode1">Mode 2 = Mode 1</xsl:if> </body> </html> </xsl:template> </xsl:stylesheet> It gives the error Description: A reference to variable or parameter 'mode1' cannot be resolved. The variable or parameter may not be defined, or it may not be in scope.
