If you have XML elements with XHTML children and you want to copy
the HTML subtrees then you could use <xsl:copy-of select="node()"/>
but in your case you do need to use apply-templates so that you
eventually find the  <TABLENAME/> and replace it by whatever you need.

However you don't need to write out a template for every html element,
just use the identity transform that is in the XSLT spec, then
every element will be copied by default, and you just need add templates
matching TABLENAME etc for those elements taht you don't want to copy.

But your setup seems a rather strange use of XSL, rather than
have

is a complete XSL stylesheet that would act as you describe, it is a
template with data (the table name) being filled at runtime.
